Guardian Automotive es una de las pocas compañías en el mundo que fabrica productos de vidrio y plástico inyectado (TRIM) para automóviles. En España tienen una planta de parabrisas, una planta de inyección de plástico y revestimientos especiales para automóviles, dos redes nacionales de reparación/sustitución de parabrisas en automóviles y una completa red de almacenes para la distribución y comercialización de sus productos.
La planificación de la producción y las adquisiciones se basan en previsiones y en diferentes herramientas. Éstas se llevan a cabo en un entorno muy inestable y dinámico, entre otras cosas, dado el crecimiento exponencial del producto acabado con una corta vida de mercado. Esto provoca un mayor riesgo de obsolescencia. También existe una gran variabilidad en la adquisición de excelentes materias primas de proveedores con largos plazos de entrega. El proceso de producción requiere una excelente calidad, y por eso trabajan con lotes de producción elevados.

La clave fue adaptarse rápidamente a los cambios en el mercado, eliminando las previsiones y planificando con amortiguadores para el producto terminado que se ajusten diariamente a la variabilidad de la demanda. También crearon lotes basados en las ventas para minimizar el riesgo de obsolescencia, así como la adición de amortiguadores para las materias primas, que filtran la alta variabilidad en la adquisición de las mismas y estabilizan el proceso de producción.
Esto dio lugar a un proceso de planificación estandarizado en todos los niveles de la cadena de suministro con una sola herramienta integrada: Reposición +. Como resultado de la integración de la Planificación de las Necesidades de Materiales en función de la Demanda, habrá un mejor servicio al cliente, y podrán ofrecer al mercado condiciones más atractivas de servicio.
