Frulact ha estado suministrando fruta e ingredientes a la industria alimentaria durante más de treinta años. Fundada en Portugal en 1987, la compañía opera ocho plantas de producción en cinco países. Estas fábricas cuentan con más de 2000 materias primas para producir y suministrar productos a algunos de los fabricantes más importantes del sector alimentario, como Danone, Chobani, Nestlé y otros. Prever la demanda es un reto; la reposición se hace aún más difícil con materias primas (por ejemplo, fruta fresca) que están disponibles en cantidades limitadas y sólo por un cierto período de tiempo, dependiendo de la temporada de cosecha de la fruta. Los gerentes de la cadena de suministro de Frulact no pueden permitirse cometer errores. En 2000, Frulact intentó mejorar su reposición mediante desarrollos a medida utilizando los principios del MRP, pero estos desarrollos no estuvieron a la altura de las expectativas. Luego, en 2008, Frulact decidió implementar SAP, basándose en la suposición de que un motor comercial de MRP de un proveedor de ERP tan reputado les ayudaría sin duda a satisfacer sus necesidades. A lo largo de los años, han «aprendido mucho» de esta experiencia, pero con SAP, lo mejor tampoco les bastó para alcanzar sus objetivos empresariales.

Al final, la compañía oyó hablar de Demand Driven MRP y Replenishment+. Frulact sugirió que el proyecto se pusiera en marcha en enero de 2019, pero su consultor y la dirección acordaron comenzar tres meses antes. Como los dos sistemas (SAP y DDMRP) podían funcionar en paralelo, no había ningún riesgo para la empresa. Todavía podrían decidir las recomendaciones a seguir. Parece que el DDMRP está ganando esta batalla. Hasta la fecha, Frulact ha aplicado la solución de Replenishment + en seis de sus ocho plantas, con una reducción de 2 millones de euros en las existencias de materias primas directamente atribuible al DDMRP y un aumento de 1,5 millones de euros en el capital de explotación.
